haahhaaha. I was making fun of the fact that his beard is so patchy, or at least on the print out it looked patchy.

Yes he is hard. Actually this is a very good subject for coloring. Few forceful strokes will give the effect of action. If I get enough time I would like to do it again with color. Here I used some unfinished lines to show that effect.

oh dear... is it that bad? No Jan, not bad at all; quite the contrary. I do think, however, that there is more likeness from the tip of the nose to the top of the head than there is from the tip of the nose downward. He does look like he's in some sort of pain though. Makarand, very nice. Light, I like the 2 very distinct styles you used, but I think you got a much better likeness in the second one. The problem that I see is that the second photograph does not really convey very well the image most people have of Clapton, at least not in my mind anyway. Lynn, same comments: very good likeness to the photo. And you're right on about his facial hair growth (it would be a stretch to refer to it as a "beard") Light, toonMom, and Horate: thanks for your comments.

k, true story: a guy i know named brad-- the only other caricaturist on the halifax waterfront in the summers-- gets this customer a couple of summers ago, during an event they call "the tall ships", where a whole bunch of, well... tall ships come into the harbour and ridiculous numbers of people crowd the place in throngs to see them. this customer looks familiar to brad, but he can't quite place it. they make conversation while brad's drawing, and the dude says he's irish, so he'll probably be out drinking later that night. anyway, he draws the guy, then asks him what his favourite thing to do is. the guy says "i guess you can just draw me playing my guitar". brad still doesn't clue in. when the drawring's all done, brad asks the customer's name, and he says, "oh, you really don't recognize me? i thought you were having me on." turns out, it's eric clapton, in town for the tall ships! brad was so stunned, he let him go without getting a photo or an autograph or anything! wild! anyway, here's my shot at the man. pretty quick sketch, but i like it.
