Great job Hans! Was it done in Painter or the other program you've been playing around with?

Hans that is another great job ......how do you create a mask with Painter...? I know you do it after you have done the backgroud.

In Painter I use the "lasso" tool from the toolbox. Then ,with my tablet and pen,I trace the outerline of the face. This is done the first thing after importing my drawing into painter. I then fill it with a middletone of the face. After that I invert the selection (edit/invert selection) and I fill again with a middle tone, this time filling the background, both at an opacity of+/- 90%(still want to see the drawing underneath). From that background I take a lighter and a darker shade, and start dabbing "clouds" with a very wide airbrush at different pressure, the variation comes from your PenPresssure. Not possible with mouse ,my friends, you nééd a tablet... Only with a finished background I start painting the face. This is also the end of using a mask!
Did this help out a bit?

So you don't use the mask when painting the face? You just use it for the background?

Indeed, just the background. This is mainly because the edges of the mask in Painter Classic are hardedged. So for small, or sharp areas, I use smaller brushes.

I liked the Idea of doing a caricature in stages. Im also a big Kill Bill fan, I must have seen both films around 20 times each now. Im a big fan of all Quentin Tarantino films. Im going to do a full caricature of her character from kill bill when I have the time Adam

Thanks tooned, the caricature is nearly done now, I will post when finished. I highly recommend you rent Kill bill 2, or even buy it. It really ties the story together from the first one, it lacks in the action department but the story telling is great.
