this suuuuuuuuuuuucks! i joined an online class through Universal Class at the end of may. the instuctor's name was mauri barett. i have seen his work here and at his website and it is awsome, so i was pretty excited. the class was kinda expensive but i joined the class and signed up on this website. my first assignment was turned in on june 22nd and i got no feedback. i would email and get no response. i would post on the blog and no response. finally he writes back and says that he will grade it that night and return it...it has been 2 more weeks and nothing. so i write to the "universal class" with my problem and they said .......... "We apologize for your frustration. Unfortunately this course instructor left his/her course without finishing current student instruction. Sorry about this. So you have two options: 1.) Finish the course anyway. All the course material continues to be available to you. Submit all assignments/ tests/ and complete lessons at your own convenience. A staff member at UniversalClass Inc. will acknowledge and grade your work (note though that grading feedback will not be as elaborate) Or 2.) Withdraw from the course and request a full refund. Sincerely, Darlyne so i guess i am going to try to get my money back. I have been drawing alot though. and i would like to just start posting here and getting some feedback. extremly bummed out aaron

Hi Aaron, i like those eyes, expression and technique, maybe i like more the caricatures eyes, i see more funny and movement there, are invented or copy? the persons you paint are fine , not my choice but good tech on lights and shadows.

the eyes were an assignment. so i had to draw a bunch of eyes out of an entertainment magazine. Then i had to draw a bunch of comic style eyes from a worksheet. kinda boring but it was good practice.

sorry about the class aaron! hope something works out.. i'd be bummed too. mauri seems like a nice guy, so hopefully he'll get back to you or something. the eyes look great. for me caricaturing eyes is the funnest part of doing caricatures. keep up the great work. be sure to post your caricatures.. and draw lots of them.. by the way, i really like your second painting!very funny. who's the first painting of?

To deselect it - just edit your post and delete the tag for it. Those are all really great eyes - which makes me wonder why you would be taking a course and I don't mean just Mauri's. As far as park type sketches - those are not really it. Those are fine for caricatures - they are just not the 'park style'. I'll see if I can whip some up for you.

When referring to the theme parks here - I mean the non-airbrush one pretty much (Kamans). As a general rule - park's don't bother with shading on a b/w drawing. The lack of shading makes the drawing look sort of like a coloring book picture. The reason this is done IMO, is to upsale to a color picture = $$. It also makes the b/w go faster so that you can move on to the next sale. Personaly I like it this way - gray shading on solid black marker lines looks a little weird to me most of the time. When the shading and lines are the same it looks way, way better IMO - just like the eyes you posted. Anyway, you need a brush marker that you feel comfortable with and that you can get a variety of line thicknesses from. Draw the eye cartoony or serious - but straight from the marker. I drew these based on the last of eyes in your post.

thanks for the info on editing the post. i took care of it. the " Kaman's Art Shoppes" look is exactly what i am looking for. i love the stuff they do at bush gardens. i wish i could get a ton of samples from that style. thanks for the eyes that you posted they look like what i am talking about. i need to start drawing with a brush marker. so i can get a feel for it. if anyone else worked with or trained with Kamans ( or any park) i would love to see some of your brush marker caricatures.

If you are near them - why don't you just apply to work there? They almost always could use another artist.
