Aaron i think it`s only practice, search a method and repeat is not so difficult if you are familar with the pencils.Good examples Frank, i like also this fast way of doing caricatures, but, my choice is more darker, and at least i ´m not sure if really i like to do live caricatures, i have made only to friends on partys but more sweet cause they can crap me.Frank if you have more examples like this continue posting please.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Mauri's class. He really is a great guy (even though that is not the issue here). I know what you mean about staring at the park drawings. I do the same thing. My drawings always turn out flat though. I just can't seem to get the hang of it. Lack of practice I guess! Keep at it and keep showing us your work.

Seminole County Fl? weel if thats the case, I think SeaWorld might be a little closer to you right? just a short drive on I-4? depending on what part of seminole county you are coming from...I used to work out at SeaWorld, for Kamans and most of the people hired there didnt have any previous experiance. from what I can see from your work (the eyes) then I think youre more than qualified for a job there, and they would definatly hire you, unless each pair of eyes took you like 30 minutes, which I doubt highly. but dont be afraid to go out for a job at either park, teh manager at seaworld is great, and wouldnt tell you you suck...(you dont...) and ive never met the guy over at busch gardens, but here hes pretty nice aswell, real cool guy... as for examples for brush pen works (kamans uses dixon markette bullet tipped, not brush pens) you could do a google search for joe bluhms blog, amazing caricature artist, chris rommel (airbrush artist but he still uses markers) or take a look at my me gallery, which I had almost every artist at seaworld draw me sitekreator.com/chrisneuenschwander/caricatures_of_chris.html but as far as markers/colorstix vs graphite/airbrush the only reason I think it is is because graphite looks better against the airbrushed colors, and if you used graphite with colorstix, then it would smudge. its really kinda the same using either, ive worked with both. there are airbrush artists (namely rommel) that do use marker. dont know the point im tryin to make, but yup. I have a good amount of experiance in theme parks, for two different companies, kamans and fasens, so if you have any questions, id be happy to answer them for you. hopefully some of this information will help you out in your endeavors! -Chris

Chris is right - the Markette is really a bullet tip not a brush tip but...
No other bullet tip I ever used is like this - except of course the Design 229LF. All the other bullet tips I've ever seen are more like a Sharpie tip - it wears down to a useless nib.
The Markette retains it's shape except for bending. A brush tip is more like the Markette IMO - but is usually softer and more flexible, so it bounces back from the bending.

chris- thanks for the remarks and info. i am in the city of seminole. it is south of clearwater. so it is closer to bush gardens. i called the manager there yesterday, and left a message. i am not ready to do caricatures yet, but i wanted to get some info. mauri - thanks for responding i will email you privately to talk. thanks again frank- thanks for the info on the pens. i went to “pearls” and got a brush pen and used it last night. i was pretty happy with the varying lines. i just need to work with them for a while. i have been mimicking other caricatures and once i do a caricature on my own i will post it. aaron maybe i will post one of the mimicked (copied ) caricatures

Which brush did you try? Just remember SPA - Speed, Pressure , and Angle will all affect your lines.
If you post a mimic just make sure you credit the original - if possible. A common way of doing IIRC it is put... After (the original).
After Don Pinsent After Mauri Barnett
I've seen it in signatures - I'm not sure of the correct way when typing in the text on a board. I guess I should have put "After aaronwvu" on those eyes - my bad.

i just got done with some tonight. i used a "Tombow abt n25" it worked really well (at first) about 6 caricatures in the point turned to mush and i have no control over the thickness of lines. i guess i will try to find those markettes. or should i just expect all tips to turn to mush after a few drawings?

Sorry to hear about your Tombow - I've seen other guys use those, so I would'a assummed they were good. The markettes are real hard to get in the States from what I understand. We have a store here in San Antonio that sells them called Herwecks - www.herwecks.com/. You won't find markettes listed on the website, but if you call they do carry them. But unfortunatly they out at the moment and waiting for their order to come in. I'm sure if you don't mind paying then they won't mind shipping. I think they go around $4 a marker. I usually just by a box of them - but I know I'm gonna use them.
