The winner of the group poll was Will & Grace. The challenge is to draw the four main characters on the show - Will (Eric McCormack) Grace (Debra Messing) Jack (Sean Hayes) Karen (Megan Mullally)
There are lots of pictures on the web, if you find a really good one, feel free to post it here. I'll add some later, when I have the time.
Get started and have fun!

Hi There, Here's my shot so far. I'm taking my time with this one. I know the likeness isn't there. There's hardly any exaggeration. I can't seem to get it. Geesh, I'm trying not to get frustrated, but I'm strugglin'. Please, comments, feedback, and suggestions. Thanks, Ricky

Rcorbett
Your not going through anything that everyone else has not gone through. Keep it up, take your time, cross reference everything to everything. If you want to exaggerate then you need not to make everything big or everything small, and still remember to stretch parts to fit.
But most of all have fun!

RCorbett Don't get discouraged! We all started out drawing stick people at one time and moved forward. There are excellent tutorials out there. Some on this site and Hans has some on his site also. I suggest start with the outlines (the shading comes later) try to capture the likeness in that before you shade. Keep it up. I even recomment copying others at first with their photo reference pictures beside their caricature like you posted. You will start to notice why and how they came to their final rendering. Mikey

hi Ricky, it's frustrating isnt it !! I know, we all do. Just keep going. Mikey gave a great tip. Dont be afraid to copy someone else's work that you like. That way you learn exactly what it is they are doing and you can build it into your style.

You could also try timing yourself (3-5 minutes) and work on just the basic form of the drawing. I do this sometimes and it's really quite fun. Also try using a marker instead of a pencil.

Marker ----- I'm so afraid......lol I know I should be using marker or pen more. I'm just afraid because you can't erase marker or pen. I guess that would be a good way of "forcing" myself to keep things simple so to speak and less portrait-like. Thanks for the advise and tips. I will try this again (in marker) then post it. ricky
