did this in oil pastel, while working with kids at an outdoor event. never worked with oil pastels before, so i wanted to see what could happen. this is from a cover of a book i'm reading, one of those trashy fun novels by robert e.howard

i'm not sure what to think of oil pastels. i like the softness and the blending, but i don't know if i like the smudginess. i know that's becuz of my favourite colour pencils, where i can be precise and use layer after layer. but i do need to stray out of my comfort zone once in a while. i think i'd like to experiment with a caricature or a portrait, see what happens. who knows, maybe pastels will be the new thing for me! (except not chalk, since i am allergic to the dust!)

I tried using oil pastels once and I didn't like the mess either. Of course, my results weren't quite as good as yours.

i think i might have to use oil pastels more often. i really appreciate the positive feedback you've given me toonmom and mauri. hmmm...planning a trip to the art supply store....yippee!

conan is uber cool ill haveta post a photo of my big 'interior' in oil pastels that i had to do for school, i topped art with t and got 109% yay me! lol, but yeah, oil pastels are quite fun neh? you can get some reaally cool colours wiith them, and it looks like youve fgured that out here, i love the right arm

thanks for your kind comments aimee. i prefer that right arm, too, i spent a bit more time with it. i look forward to seeing your project! do you work a lot with oil pastels? maybe you have some suggestions for me.
