My A3 scanner has conked out, Is it possible to draw an a4 picture colour it in photoshop or painter. And then open and enlarge it in adobe illustrator to a3 size without losing quality? I thought i read some where a long time ago that it was possible to turn a pixel/ bitmap image in to a vector. I think i got that right. Hope my question makes sense.

I don't think this is possible, but I may be wrong. I think there is always going to be some amount of distortion when you enlarge a raster image.

I used a program years ago where you could trace a raster image and create a new vector image from it. The program did all of the tracing for you. However, when it was all done it looked like garbage and you had to go in with the pen tool and clean it up. It took way to long to do. The only images it really worked on were ones you could recreate yourself very easily.

seems it will be easier just to buy myself a new a3 scanner, that will hurt.
