This was done in Photoshop 6.0.
1. Open a new file 200x200 pixels
2. Using the Eliptical Marquee tool, make a perfect circle slightly smaller than your image.
(to make your cirlce perfect, hold down the shift key while dragging it)(you can also hold down the space bar to move your circle to a different spot if it's off center)
3. Make a new layer
4. fill your circle with your base color (254,189,27) - Alt+backspace fills using foreground color.
this is what you should have so far
5. Again, on a new layer, make another circle for the number dot. Fill it with white. Then with an off-white color, add some darker areas to the dot.
6. with your main circle selected, change your color to a darker shade (219,129,6) and use the Airbrush tool to add a shadow on the ball. My settings for the AB tool are at: 65 soft brush, mode-normal, pressure 6%. I also put this on a new layer.
you should now have something similar to this
7. with your main circle still selected and on another new layer add an even darker shadow (156,78,6)
8. Make a new layer, change your color to white and make a selection using the Eliptical Marquee tool for the highlight.
Using the Airbrush tool (same settings as before), paint in your highlight.
this is where you should be at
9. To finish off your image, add a number 1 to the ball and a final touch to the shadow using black.
This is my finished piece
note: you may need to adjust the opacity on some of your layers if your shadows or highlights look too bold. This is just a guide to help you get started. I am assuming you have some basic Photoshop skills, if not, please ask any questions that you have and I will do my best to help you through it.
