I guess digital art applies to 3D as well, so I thought I'd post a few pics I did in 1997-98. They were done in POV (a freeware renderer). By browsing my harddisk, I stumbled across an early 3D doodle I forgot about! (that one was done (quickly) in Studio Max) Hope they're not too big for in here (800x600) A mage kumite Real to Reel mind's eye and the obligatory doodle <g> m.

Very nice work! I like it a lot. The one with the wings is my favorite I think.

its all good work, I like the wings one, but I also like the last one, it sort of seems to be like viewing something through the holes in space.. almost viewing another dimension, or it could be viewing skin up close through a mask of random fluid shapes, or even a conjouration using tribal magic with signs etc..very nice

No, Enigma. Just a few objects now and then, but not a complete scene. I did those when I had plenty of time on my hands (was working in sub-sahara with barely enough solar-power to fuel my notebook, and no pub less than a 2 hour drive away...)
Thank you all for your sweet comments.

Indeed, well observed. The sheet of paper is an original drawing from Leonardo. The scene is called 'Mind's eye'. The wing lifts in the imagination of the master, while he is drawing his plans

hi, I know what you mean about time constraints morsil, the 3D scenes I have created have taken a long time to put together and everything, but my longest time to create a picture is still done in pencil not 3D for some reason..oh well, hope I get more tiem to fiddle with some more 3D, the results of my experimentation are on my website if anyone wants a peep?

Had a look at your website, sweetleaf, and liked it a lot. I wonder if I can hope to ever achieve what you can do with a pencil. What takes me the most time is to really know what I'm doing The point in 3D, I think, is mainly to get to know the programm as best as possible (Hmm, guess that applies to the pencil as well). I'm afraid I never took the time to know one software package in and out. But what I like in 3D is that one does not have to be as careful as with a pencil drawing. There is place for mistakes and experiments. A misplaced stroke doesn't ruin the whole thing. I can work with try and error to get what I want : form, shading, colours, angle, atmosphere, etc. And the programmer in me likes the fact of reusability Of course, modern computers help a lot too : some scenes took more that 12 hours to render on my P 120 MHz Notebook. But one still needs to have a concept and a theme, though. And that's sometimes the toughest part to get right. m.

Thankyou for looking at my art website, all critisism is greatly appreciated I suppose its the same with anything, if you dont have some idea of what you want to achieve then it makes for a very difficult time, I could only really do the 3D stuff by specifically learning the 3D package I had and by having a project to work with, in that case it was stuff for a fantasy game online, they needed someone to do the pics and so I voluntered my skills. I think thats my problem these days, that I dont have a specific thing to achieve other than experimentation.. thats why I am interested in doing the cartooning stuff on here and whatnot.. have a goal

That is true for me as well, sweetleaf. For 3D, I had found that goal in IRTC ( internet raytracing competition). Each competition lasts for two month, about a specific topic. The submitters are voters, and one gets constructive comments about what could be improved in one's image (at least, that's what it used to be; haven't submitted anything for the last 5 years...). Check it out if you have the time m.
