Caricature of a caricature of a caricature, etc.
Take a photo and draw a caricature from it. Then take your drawing and make a caricature from that and so on. You should have 5 drawings when you are all done.

I just wanna say that I LOVED this challenge. I chose Steve Buscemi for two reasons. One, he's really, really ugly, so I thought there would be a lot to exaggerate. (I was right.) And two, he's practically a caricature already, so I thought that would be fun. (I was right.) When I started off, I really, honestly believed that the first drawing was as exaggerated as I'd be able to get. Which is not to say that I had exaggerated him as much as he could be exaggerated; rather that I'd be incapable of doing anything else. I was so wrong. Honestly, at the end, I was actually chuckling at my own work, which has literally never happened. I just had a field day with poor Mr. Buscemi. Lauren, you thought the last challenge was my best? I honestly feel that this week was my best. Despite all this horn tooting, please everyone give me some honest feedback. Tell me what you like and what you don't, as always. Thank you so much. Here goes: By the by, I don't want you all to misread the above and think that I've gone on a ego-trip. I haven't. I know I need to improve a lot; I just really enjoyed this week's challenge is all. -- Eric

I love where you went with this one Eric. The last two look too much alike though, I think you needed bigger paper to take it any further.

i'm glad the exercise helped you learn to push your exaggeration, eric. unfortunately, in my opinion, you started off with a weak likeness, which of course didn't get any better with each step. i think his eyes should be set wider apart, and the shape of his lips is off, just for starters.

Toonmom - Thank you so much. I agree that the last two are similar, and that bigger paper probably would have helped.
Don - Thank you so much. I mostly agree with you. If I had had more time, who knows? I may have done that first one over before starting on the others. However, my girlfriend was able to guess the subject, so I just went ahead with it. I figured that since this isn't a contest of quality of likeness, I'd be fine. I still have trouble seeing shapes and translating them to paper, but I feel that I'm drastically better than when I started. Again, thank you so much for your comments.

Eric i think Buscemi is an excellent face to draw.It seems be easy, but, i think he isn`t. the excercise you made is funny but i agree with Don.I like the outlines you made, now i think it can be suggested some shadows with the lines in some parts, only to break the monotony and give more visual movement.

Horate -
Thank you for the advice. The thing is, I don't know a thing about suggesting shadow or shading, or really anything that adds texture. I know that there are some great tutorials out there, but the problem there is with the format. I tend to be the type that can't really learn just by seeing the product and reading how it was accomplished, as most of the on-line tutorials do. Rather, I sort of need to see the process actually happening, like you would with a video, which is why if I finish this Slacker Challenge, my choice in prize will probably be makarand's video.

Makarand has a video? or do you mean Mauri? The prize can be whatever you want (within reason of course.)

Eric i have made this one inspired in the photo you put, and the words you say, trying to explain something about the shadows.i take my ink pen like it was a brush, with the point of my fingers, and i worked trying give shades only with traces, constructing first eyes and continue with the rest, stand up all time, the block was on the table, my arm was not flected.hope this can explain about the shadows, or textures, you can give only with ink pen..

Oooooops!!! Sorry, Toonmom. I totally meant Mauri. My head wasn't thinking, and I think I just went with the first "M" name I could think of. Sorry.
Horate - Thank you for that. I don't know for sure if it will help, but it certainly couldn't hurt.

Horate, although you have a unique style. I do not think this is the best example of shadows in the greatly caverness landscape which is steve buscemis face. it is a nice sketch though, just not a good sketch of mr buscemi....
