smooth blending in Painter Classic

How do you get smooth blending of tones, skin tone for example in Painter Classic? Mikey, I've been studying your drawing of me and the smoothness of the tonal changes is amazing as well as the highlights and shadows. HANS, you achieve the same effects - how do you do this? The tablet is just so amazing, I want to learn every aspect of it. Tips, suggestions, and advice is greatly appreciated.

another tip: " prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrractice!"draw and draw again,even if you don't like the current effort,the next will be better because of what you learned.Always think, "how would I do this next time?"
