maybe some of you agree? the comment is: it is very satisying to immortalize a friend or family member than a celebrity? It seems to make the caricature experience real and fun. We obviously have to showcase our skills by rendering celebrities to demonstrate our abilities. The celebrities get plenty of publicity as it is. We can only use papparazi images etc for our reference. Which is fine, and thank goodness for the web! otherwise People magazines would get pretty dog earred!

I make it a policy NOT to draw close friends and family.I'm not comfy with it,that's all.Exceptions are my brother and daughter. They(family/friends) want to see an immediate good reflection of themselves, preferably a flattering one..while on celebrities, you pick the pose and the rendering carefully, and take your time. Not happy with it? No one will see it...simple.

everyone is different that is for sure. You would think most people would be flattered that you would take the time. But people can be vain or self conscious - I have a large family lots of brothers and sisters inlaws etc.. it is open season...and if I get a good digital photo. I love to draw them. I have my favourite targets ...and I am still alive

all my friends and family are fully aware that i do not aim to flatter, and very few (all from my wife's family, actually) have specifically requested that i never draw them.... so i never show the ones i do of them heeheeee. most of the people i know have enough of a sense of humour about themselves that they don't care how i draw them, and quite enjoy the finished drawings. all that said, however, i must say that for some reason i enjoy doing the celebrities much more. maybe just because my shallow little life is so centred on entertainment or something. i don't know. i just have a lot more fun drawing famous people than drawing us regular ol' boring ol' REAL people.

I have had people ask me to draw them but have always slipped out of it. The only exception is an artist fried of mine who I have drawn several times in portrait and caricacture. I also did a portrait of my nephew for his mother but not a caricature. I did have one lady who I drew at a restaraunt want the picture and offered to pay. That is some validation which I often need. I'm just not comfortable with my abilities yet. I will say I enjoy drawing people in person rather than the photos.

I'd never draw any family members. Bad vibes travel fast!

I don't like drawing friends and family, but I do prefer drawing "live" - rather than from photographs. You get a better sense of the personality of the individual, the essence, which can be incorporated into the drawing. But friends and family can be difficult...if I like them, I don't want to insult them, but if I don't like them, then they take my very exaggerated caricature as an offense (which it probably is!). I have a very large family, so it would take me forever to draw them all (I have six brothers and sisters, and about two hundred cousins, aunts, and uncles!). At least celebrities are a safe bet. Not likely I'll ever meet Bruce Willis (though I desperately want to!).
