Could you guys share your process of developing a caricature (non-colored) from the beginning thought process to the finished sketch? I guess I am just looking for ideas like "I always start from the nose/eyes etc and work around that" or "I start with the feature that I will exaggerate most" or " I draw the basic shape of the face first" etc, etc. Do you usually approach each caricature the same (when not experimenting)? How many sketches will you go through before a final piece? Any thoughts on this subject are greatly appreciated.

Mauri taught us to start with the eyes, however, I now start with the nose and find it more comfortable for me. It's a personal thing. I find that if I take a black felt tip marker (small nib) and make a bunch of 1-2 minute sketches, it helps me to loosen up and work on the likeness and find what works. I don't have a lot of patience so I only do 2-5 sketches. If I get a good one, I usually stop. I feel this is wrong though and I should do more, but as I said, I'm not a patient person. After that I usually take a colored pencil and draw the sketch, reworking it as I go. Then I redraw it on another piece of paper or just go over it with pencil.
I don't have a system down yet, it's all trial and error for me. I hope this helps though.

it depends for me. for quick, live caricatures i do on the street or at parties, i always start with the nose and build around that. not sure why, it just seems to be what works best for me. but when i'm caricaturing a celebrity, just on my own time, my approach just depends on what i visualize in my head before starting. usually, things i'm not quite sure whether i can actually draw right are what i start with, figuring if i don't get them right, i'll just start over, but to start with the stuff i know i can draw right, then ruin it with stuff that doesn't quite work out, would be a waste of time. under the "ice-t" thread in the caricature gallery, i just posted a message this morning that goes into more detail about my approach to my celebrity caricatures, if you're interested.

Thanks so much for the link HANS. I will definitely give that approach a shot.
