I just got some chalk, but I haven't had time to use it yet. Lately I've been using colored pencils a bit. They turn out nice, but are time consuming. The chalk and glove thread is a couple down from this one, check it out if you haven't already.

I enjoy using gouache, if I want to paint the caricature. E-bay has tons of wholesale art suppliers, and there are some great deals. I bought new brushes, a set of 18 gouache tubes, and a palette, for less than it would have cost me here in Canada. Check out Prismacolour colour pencils and markers, as well as Chartpak. I've even used the plain Laurentians, like school kids use, and they work well. Verithin colour pencils are great to use for those fine details, like eyelashes and hair. Don't bother buying a huge set; stick to the browns, pinks, peaches, yellows, reds, a light blue and green, a dark blue and green, and purple, and black, and get one colourless blender pencil. You should be able to mix every colour you want by layering and using the blender pencil. (I very rarely use white; I don't like how it dulls the colour). Check out the scrapbook aisle at a craft store for new markers and pens, and papers. They work well for artists, as well as scrapbookers.
