hans, i wouldn't say this if i didn't mean it: excellent britney. now i have to amend my earlier statement and say the only TWO really good britney spears caricatures i've seen are niall's and hans's's's's. incidentally, here's my latest attempt at eminem. again, please do comment, good and bad.

yeap hans, recognised her immediately good job Those eyes, those brows and forehead, that hair! Great! But (please don't be offended or anything, i know i'm totally not the right guy to give any critique, i'm just curious and i think this could be a point to discuss: ) is it just me, i've never drawn britney spears but when i look at a picture of her and try to visualize in my mind how i should draw her, i always think of a smaller nose.. You drawn it pretty big but you still got her Great job! (and hmm maybe i should give her a try when i have some spare time..)

My great white whale is Moby Dick...every time I try to draw him, I run out of paper.(sorry, couldn't resist)
Erik.
I always find the worst people to draw are usually close friends and family, because you can never get everything you know about them into a drawing...unless they're really ugly or have a really big nose , then they're easy...I like the one I just did of Don... but what does that mean.

Oh yeah. I knew it meant something. Thanks Don. Your a real friend.
Erik.
and remember when drawing Eminem, he may seem hard and tough on the outside, but inside he has a sweet, chocolate center...

my white whale is Jim Carrey. Not a big fan of his (I find him most irritating) but I wanted to give it a go. I found several pix, and some of them didn't look like him (too bland) and others were too overthe top, and whatever I drew couldn't compare. He's so ordinary when he's not mugging for the camera...I just can't find an approach that I'm happy with.

when i'm having a hard time coming up with a good caricature of someone, i sometimes find it helpful to look at other caricaturists' websites to see whether they have a good one. if they do, it helps to observe how they approached it. then, of course, i don't copy what they drew, but it helps give me an idea of where to start. actually, i just drew the first jim carrey caricature i like a couple of weeks ago. i'll try to remember to post it here if you want to see it.

Definitely post it, Don. It is always encouraging to me to see how other artists' approach a difficult subject, as you suggested. I find the other white whale I have difficulty with is my mother (hope she doesn't read this...she'll think I just called her a whale. Sorry Mom!). Anyway, I can't draw my mother very well. I want to be too nice to her, and I lose that edge. She did feed and clothe me for 17 years after all... and she feeds my kids occasionally, too. She always ends up looking much younger than she really is, and a lot like me. I'd like to post a pic of her, maybe see how others tackle the problem. And never, ever tell my mom.

Arnold? Arnold?! Okay, I've never done one of him that I really like, and I was commissioned to do one that was published in a deck of cards, once (and I don't like, and I ain't showing you, either!) But on my site I promote artists to my clients and one of the things I ask of them is to submit celebrity caricatures for my celebrity galleries. There is a gallery dedicated to Arnold, and there are a ton of good ones there. Check it out here: www.aboutfacesentertainers.com/caricature/celebrity_pages/celebrity_arnold.htmor you can just go to my site and check out all of the galleries.

Oh, and nice job, Don. If you would show your references, it would be easier to comment, but the likeness is definitely there. I think of him as having a rounder face, though. And do his eyebrows really come that closely together, and are they that dark? I really like the way you did the mouth, and the eyes give it a likeness all by themselves.
If you're an NCN member and have the latest copy of Exaggerated Features, Celestia Ward did a pretty nice one of Eminem in there. And I seem to recall having seen a good one done of him as an M & M somewhere, but I can't recall where.

i think that m&m one was paddy boehm's, wasn't it? that was actually the one i was thinking of earlier in this thread when i said it was by jason seiler. i got confused. it wasn't seiler's. i'm not certain, but now i think it was paddy. unfortunately, i didn't have just one reference photo for this drawing. it's kind of an amalgamation of a whole bunch of my earlier attempts. i don't know about his eyebrows being close together, but i think they are fairly dark, and i exaggerated that i bit more to emphasize the fact that blonde is clearly not his natural colour. i'm afarid i'm not an ncn member. just can't afford to add any more regular payments than i already have coming out of my bank account.
