I like to use "fat" pencils. I got a set of cheap drawing pencils from office max and I love them. They are fairly big around making it easier for me to grip.

The pencils I use and love are the Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencils, I got a set of 6 which consist of a HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, 7B and an 8B, they're nice smooth soft pencils, I tend to use the 2B most though, ive almost sharpened it all the way down.

I had the same Steadtler pencils, try making some contrasts,in few places (don't over do it!) with the 6B..you'll surpise yourself ! Used those up to the time I found those fntastic Pilot crocuis leadholder (6b) just bought some refills last weekend. For drawing I use "paper mate-PhD" 0.7mm (refillable)now that's a great pencil....

Im in need of some new art supplies, pencils mainly, I may get some coloured pencils for attempting colour within my caricatures,
Does any body know of any sets of coloured pencils that come with just a range of flesh tones?.
I checked out the Pilot Croquis Lead Holder, it looks like a great pencil, I may pick one up and try it out.

i like the derwent sketching pencils, medium wash, in 2b 4b and 6b. they're soft, and easily blendable. for colour pencils, i use prismacolour wax colour pencils and verithin colour pencils. the prismacolours are soft, blendable, and you can get a pencil or the stick. the verithins are harder, so when you need to draw details like eyes they work well. both verithins and prismacolours can be bought individually. don't buy the sets, it's a waste of money coz you'll get a lot of colours you won't use. for flesh tones, here's all you'll need for a range of skin colours; prismacolour 914,927.941,946,928. verithin terra cotta (excellent for outlining, instead of using graphite pencil). then get a colourless blending pencil, prismacolour 1077. and you're all set!
