That is beautiful! Do you paint them on the spot or do you do them from photos or memory?

thanks guys I take a lot of photos, I sketch, but mostly paint at home from the sketches and photo reference. The paintings are based "loosely" on the photos and sketches. I prefer arches 140lb watercolour paper "cold press" and have been lucky enough to have been given a nice watercolour block for a gift...as opposed to stapling single sheets etc...

Nice work DM I never could get into water colors, except to use them on occassions as a sketching medium. I admire anyone who can do water colors properly. Do you sell? Are you represented by a gallery?

Light: I have had 3 local shows of my paintings in the last few years. I also have had my work in the local art gallery rental program. I am not represented by any gallery of note, but would sure like to! I have pondered the idea of prints and doing some local historical spots but have not had time.

Mauri: Oh very familiar with Bateman's work. He taught school here in Burlington Ontario. I have met him. Great artist and wildlife naturalist with a strong sense of environmental concern. Saw many of his originals as well. A great artist. He tends to work mostly in acrylics. In his 70's, a great birder and very interesting man. As for my watercolour? I was thinking of putting an iquana on the branch, but decided maybe it would not suit this locale... cheers

We watched a video in art class on Bateman last semester. It was one of the most interesting videos I've ever seen. His work is really amazing.

he had a lecture on birding last year and of course all the middle aged groupies were there. He showed slides from all over the world including India Africa and North America...truly fascinating. I almost ran out and bought a field guide but writing down bird siting really isn't part of my personality. He currently lives on Salt Spring Islands British Columbia and is still going strong with his art.
