I want to start using acrylpaint. What should I look for? Any special Items, brushes brands,or colours?Painting tips?
I found this little box12 colors, and started painting away. Not bad ,for a start. I allready know that the brushes that came with it,need to be replaced, they where rubbish. The paint was very cheap, and maybe not that good,so replacement will also be in order. Tips and hints are welcome.

I traduce my oil painting knowledge for acryl paint on my carreer and I can give you some tips : *Work with "something which can do cloud of water" (english vocabulary for french) to can make wet your acrylic and can work on for make good color translation. Me I use 2. One big, used for give water for plants. The other , a old Perfume bottle I make full of water. *Don't trust a lot on the color acrylic, they often loose some power at dry. This power they can win back with some glossy vernish, or in adding a glossy medium on the material during painting. *For brush, I can tell only about my prefers, cause I think it's very personnal tools and way to make a painting, so I will tell here my technical way with acryl painting , step by step : - I work first with big brush used for building painting. It's a good way to make a fast drawing, color ambiant (and feeding canvas or paper ) at the first coat. - Secondly, I use big round brush synthetic ( they better resist with acrylic on the time , I buy them in shop for decorate object / manual work, sheep and good quality they must be elastic ) to make easly gradation , and start a second coat. - Thirdly, I take some brush squared and strong ( pig hair ) some litlle, and I work dry with just a little part of acrylic, to can influence the color of my second coat. This step is ideal to create light and shadow, to continue dry gradation in transparency with water or medium. - At end, I have a little brush, to can make line, point light, or detail. This method I create is probably the faster and the more easier for me. Now, after more than 50 paintings by years with this method, I'm sure my creativity about technic sleeps. So, I thanks poeple for give another tips on this topic, and I wish that this few text ( bad english written , sorry , sorry , sorry ) will help beginner with acrylic to can love this material as I love it I let the link on one of my produce on acrylic with the technic I showed: david.revoy.free.fr/vanite/alonge.html

I had a go with a guy from the Loop (Zitman) I thought I'll ask you guys what you think of it.For one,I am not happy at all wit the hair, and the overall colour of the caricature. But since I've never done it ,I guess it could have gotten worse. .I was happy however with the eyes.C&C please?

I'm gonna have to agree with you on all points. The eyes look great, but you didn't get your usual depth on this one. The coloring on the hair is too grey I think. Great first attempt though. I am sure it was a wonderful learning experience for you and I bet your next one will be quite a bit better.

Thanks for the feedback.I think I am going to need to buy me some more colours.(only.. witch ones?) TM : about the depth,I was thinking (not sure yet)about stopping that, and just do an occasional one like that now and then. I am actually looking more for the feel of some drawings I saw from the convention..I was so really impressed with some drawings.Don't know the artists though..(I'll look up the links and repost them here) www.the-nose.com/ncn04art/NCN%2004%20art-Pages/Image281.htmlwww.the-nose.com/ncn04art/NCN%2004%20art-Pages/Image280.htmlwww.the-nose.com/ncn04art/NCN%2004%20art-Pages/Image335.htmlMauri: Thanks,I agree on the darks. It's the way to it that get's me puzzled Scott: No that didn't help me a lot.It did,but not a lot. I'm really happy with the finding of the transition of one colour into another, but all this will take me a lot of time to figure it all out .Honestly? I'm a little bit dissapointed with it all.I overestimated myself.Picking a colour from a colourwheel, and mixing some tubes of acrylpaint to (try to) get the desired colour ,is a big difference. everybody thanks again.

I have another question.Should I not use an "underpainting"? I don't know, some sort of contrast drawing under the colours? Who can help me out?

Hans hi, The pictures you linked us to are my friend Glen. I worked with him for year at Universal. All of those caricatures are done in airbrush. As fas as an underpainting thats not a bad idea. Just push the values make the darks dark. Do you know anything about graying your colors?

Thanks for the name, give my regards to a great artist. Is there a link to a site? I know nothing at all on this matter. (Before drawing on computer ,I only doodled with a pencil or a simple ballpoint......Then I found painter and I was up and running. What I know of traditional painting is posted above.I am more new to this all, than you'd imagine ) So,every tip, hint or whatever you can give me,is more than welcome.Even if it is the most obvious to you,I may never have heard of it. Thanks for everything up to now,and for what's coming.
