I am learning too but I think you can create a mask with the lasso tool just go around the face with it..... leave it there then paint inside ......it works with corel painter..

Yes ,the tool looks like a lasso. The following link got me hooked to digital painting, exercise took the levels up. www.3dluvr.com/content/section/9At the bottom of the page is a tutorial :"introduction to painter classic." All tutorials are fun to do.A must if you really want to learn it.

My painter classic (old version) came without any layers. With oil paint you have a wet lzyer wich you can dry and that's it! I guess you'l have to try without all the extra's in the big version...THhe way I do it is explained on my site in the tutorial section. users.pandora.be/hansdeconinck/oddn_01.htmlHope this helps ,if not, ask in detail.Explain clearly the problem ,or post the drawing (or send it to me)

You make a mask, by clicking on the button in the tools -window. (looks like a lasso ,or a baloon from a comic ) then ,in your drawing, you trace VERY carefull around the outline of your figure.Carefully because the mask has asharp edge. Fill the mask by choosing your desired colour and choosing "effects/fill" or pressing ctrl+f . set the the slider on approx 90% so you can just see your drawing shine through. After that choose "edit/invert selection" choose a colour that fits the mid-tone for your background. ctrl+f again.same opacity as before. now choose your favourite tool, mine is "airbrush / fatstroke" opacity at 80%. from the same colour of your background, choose a lighter shade, and dab some clouds with a wide brushtip.Varie the pressure aspecially light pressure works best. After that,on the opposite side,do the same with a darker shade. will this do?
