Does anybody here have a problem with Dyslexia? My wife (and others) seem to think that I have a challenge when it comes to what I see; what the brain sees' and what I draw. I'll admit that it doesn't look right either :/ Hell, I agree too. I seem to draw totally from image or person. Perhaps that what defines my style? Sometimes I'll get it right; but mostly my caricatures look very diffrent from what I'd envisioned. This also goes for cooking; but I tend to somehow get it sooner or later. I can make some mean Hashbrowns. I appreciate any feedback on this.

Dude! toonmom and i can totally relate to what you're experiencing! i myself suffer from an LD called Dyscalcula, which severely affects mathematical functions and order of things - so perspective, and proportions are very hard work for me. I also have ADHD, so focus and concentration are huge problems as well. My counsellor told me that often people with LDs of some sort are highly intuitive, and creative. Our minds go bouncing around the universe at about a million miles an hour! Take comfort in the fact that you are probably more visionary than the average person, but i understand what it's like to get so frustrated when the end result isn't what you had in your mind. what i've found works for me is having a sketchbook handy, and whenever an image comes to your mind, jot it down quickly, not thinking about finishing it right then. often, when i come to it later, i find that the quick sketch is closer to what i envisioned. i've also learned to "let go" - just realize that probably your sketches won't look the way your mind sees it, because our minds work differently anyway. and that's okay. i enjoy knowing that i can come up with a hundred different ideas of the same thing, when my classmates are trying to see one idea! and it helps too to get other artists' feedback. often they can see what i can't, in my work. and when they point it out to me, then i see it, too!

Ahhh.. you can relate!!!!! In addition to Dyselexia; I also have Epilepsy, OCD, and Tourettes (breathing tics). I'm medicated up the ying yang for all of it. I've also experienced the troublesome task of the brain bouncing around. I can't seem to stay focusssed on one thing:( I even have a list of things to do--and I do it all at one time--ugh Now if I can get just one of those things done, completley, I'll be all set. As for my Caricatures--my wife says I need work; but then I post them; I often get praise? Judge for yourself here: www.mikepaglia.com/gallery/drawing_board . Feel free to leave some C&C there (there's a place to leave comments when you click on the thumbnails). Sorry for going on.... It's a pleasure to be able to talk with somebody whose been there.

I don't have dyslexia, but I have some trouble getting numbers and letters in the proper order because of the ADHD. My biggest problem with caricatures is staying motivated and staying focused. Those rare times that I know what I want to put on the paper, I forget what the vision was by the time I do it.

anytime you want to rap with someone who knows what it feels like to live with a disorder, you're free to talk with me. does it ever seem odd that doctors prescribe medicine for ADHD that you need to remember to take, so that you can remember things, like taking your medicine?

very much so. I seem to take more meds to counteract all the side effects of the seizure meds/OCD/Tourettes--ugh! It' gets weird. I'd just rather live with the d**ned thing without all the meds. Thanks for the offer. I'll hold you to it maybe
