Thanks everyone for your comments. I have been away for a while and am now working on a commisioned portrait, have not had much time to do caricatures Will be back before long. Larry your work has really improved. You've got the likenesses down the hardest part, now is just fine tuning, always.

Thanks for your comments folks; I'll keep working on varying the lines. Grant, I used a Sharpie marker. The original drawing was much larger than it appears here; I had to reduce it to keep the file size acceptable, and that causes some of the graininess in the picture. Reducing the scan shouldn't do that Larry. I think you might be doing something wrong. How are you scanning them? Do you use Photoshop or anything? What format saving them in?

Hi Frank. Thanks for your ideas on this problem. I scan my drawings using a Lexmark all-in-one scanner/printer/copier/FAX into Lexmark's scanning program, from which I save the scan as a JPEG file (which is quite large, both in file size and the size it appears on the monitor). Then I open it into MGI photo Suite, copy the large drawing, and then paste it into a new drawing for which I have set the size so that it appears as you see it here. Of course, the program tells me that the drawing I am trying to paste is larger than the size of the new drawing, so it asked me if I want to shrink the pasted-in drawing or enlarge the new drawing size, and I select "shrink the pasted-in drawing'. I am open to any and all suggestions as to how I can get the same quality post-resizing as in pre-resizing.

Check in the "FILE" on the MGI Photo Suite to see if their is an option to scan directly. It might say 'twain' or 'acquire' - you should be able to get a better scan that way. If not or you just want to use the scanner program - when you export it from there to the MGI I would probaly use BMP, since it should have more detail and then switch it to JPG later. Download this program www.irfanview.com/ -it's free. It great for resizeing and changing from one format to another.
