So how do you get yourself motivated again after you have been slacking for a bit? I used to draw every free second I got (which is most likely why I get burnt out) and now I'm lucky if I draw once a week and even that is forced. Any suggestions on how to get back into the mood to draw again?

I''ve had it too, short while ago.I started drawing in totally different ways, pencil 6b,started using acryl, thought about erasing it all and stop it all together.
Then ..a certain moment ,I saw this great guy presenting himself on another forum, looking so really weird ,I though I'dd give him a lesson for looking like that!...............instant succes, then I did another one the day after that, same result, now I'm looking the net,who can I draw now,who next?
it came back!( two days ago) so don't worrie about it,feel like doing something else? do it. when you pick it up again,it will all be fresh, and cool.
i think

Hello Everyone,
I personally feel that it is almost always one of two things. One you need inspiration!!! How do I get it? inspiration that is. I look at caricature artists that I admire such as Kuruger, Debeeck, Tom Richmond, Dan Adel, etc.. Try sending 15 minutes looking through there awesome works Every morning. Then tell yourself I can do that. I can join in on the fun with them! You might find yourself picking up the pencil again. Always look for inspiration!!. My daughter ask me this morning dad how do you paint like that? My first response to her was practice then I thought for a while and answered her question a bit different No no it's love if you love what you are doing then you will do it. That brings me to the second part. Every artist I have ever talked to has been through a depression I define depression as-Those negative affirmative thoughts that you tell yourself. Such as- Man I suck! I can't draw like so and so. Why am I doing this? I don't have the talent Etc. Take note throughout the day to see if this kind of thinking is going on. Naturally it goes without saying that if you are doing this kind of thinking you won't draw much. I believe that art can be taught (or I would be a hypocrite for teaching) You will always be learning and growing, So find some good inspiration and know you are going to be great! I hope this helps someone out. This is MY personal experiences. That I know to be ture.........

i came across an article the other day (i believe it was american artist-drawing) and the author said that art isn't about talent, it's about hard work. i agree with that. inspiration will come in spurts, but you have to apply yourself and say i'm going to do this. i find when i get overwhelmed with work, and don't feel like drawing (i work in art gallery, and i'm always talking about art), i sit down with my daily planner and schedule some time. if i make an appointment with myself, then i know i will follow through with that commitment. i also find it helps if you shut off the tv and radio (it does for me, anyway) and just kind of allow yourself to get in the zone, and enjoy whatever it is you're drawing, whether it will be a finished project or some sketching. i just can't draw if there's noise, or people around...so that does limit my time a bit! ;D
