thanks jong, your right i should have gone to town on the ears, mines more of a cartoony face than a caricature. tinman good start, i can see the likeness. Light second go is better, but as jong said bigger ears on him would be even better

I agree, it seemed like the ears were pretty big when I first started but as I drew the rest of the face they got smaller. I can now see the eyes should have been biggger also. I think the problem is I'm trying to get it in one drawing and am too lazy to really look at the drawing and correct as I should. Welcome back JC

Light it is better than the previous one, although little fat cheeks.yea ears are more big.i like those earth colors. Hi Tin it is a good begin anyway think likeness is off.maybe you could try before to draw to zoom back a lot of times the photo, it aid to see details for exageration.

This is caricature no. 3 for me and the first time that I've used pastel chalk. I need all the help I can get, so any advice is much welcomed.

Great likness, I can not find a problem with the piece other than it borders on Caricature and portrait, Which I don't believe is a problem. Some like extreme exaggeration risking likeness in the production of the work. I am not this far capable of doing this. Good Job. I like your handeling of pastels.

Thank-you lightshifter. I'm not really into extreme exaggeration, especially since I have just started learning how to draw caricatures. I think right now, I just need to focus on getting my portraits to look more like caricatures. Maybe when I get better at it, I could do a couple of extreme exaggerations. I think one thing that is driving me crazy about this drawing is the nose. To me it looks flat.

I think you are doing great Lynn. As already said, the likeness is good. I found that doing the line work with a black marker and then coloring it in helps with the caricature look.

Lynn Another thing you might consider for more depth in color is to use color enhancing tools on a drawing program if you have one. I normally play with mine before posting sometimes I use it sometimes I donot. Although I like pastel for my portraits, I use a watercolor crayon for most of the stuff on the web and while doing portraits in the public or for my own amusement. They cover well, work great and donot smear. The funny thing is I have never tried using water with them, I may on the next drawing to see what I get.

thanks for the tips toonmom and lightshifter. I don't have a color enhancing or drawing program. I will try the watercolor crayons or I was thinking about trying oil pastels. I've never used them either, so I don't know how they will work. And I will try using a marker again. I want to do a caricature of Tom Hanks, so I will use him as my guinea pig.
Tooned, I appreciated your reply. I think that you do a great job and I really enjoy looking at your caricatures.

Looking good JC. It has a nice cartoon kind of feel to it and the likeness is sort of there. It's good to see something new from you. We always miss you when you are gone.
