Thank-you toonMom and thank-you Hans. I'll let you in on a little secret: I cheated on this one a bit. Rather than just pick up my marker and go to town, first I picked up my pencil. I used it to layout a sort of framework to show things like the where the eyes should be, how wide the heard is, where the top and bottom of the head should be, etc. It seems to have helped me quite a bit.

Hi Mikey, and thanks a lot. I wish I could pour on some color in my drawings like you and the others do, but I'm one severely colorblind S.O.B. Maybe in the future I can figure out a way. Your drawing of Anthony K. is fantastic!
Hans, thanks for your approval of my "crutch". Coming from a master such as yourself makes me know it's an OK thing to do.

larry, in on-the-spot caricature situations, i've trained myself to go with just the marker of course, but those are never as exaggerated or as detailed as the celebrity ones i like to do. for simple black line drawings of those, i ALWAYS plan it out in pencil first. it's not cheating. it's just smart.

ToonMom, & Larry thanks for the encouragement.
Larry, Just curious... How color blind are you? That could be an asset. Limit your pallet. Stay with two for the skin, one for light areas another for shadows. The same with others. I often desaturate color photos so I can see the values better.

OK all, thanks for your comments! It looks like the consensus says it's OK to pre-plan the marker drawing with a pencil; that's really good news for me.
Mikey, I'm afraid I'm pretty color blind. My color perception is at it's best when I'm outside in bright sunlight, and the color in question is of a rather large area (let's say, a car, for example) and is deep and pure, and not too close to another color in the spectrum. Even still, I might confuse a red with a brown, a blue with a green, and a purple with a blue, etc. At night, or indoors with anything but the brightest of light, I'm pretty much a basket case, confusing even more colors than those mentioned above.

I know this was a September challenge, but I wanted to do it anyway. Hope you like it. Erik.
