Thanks for the comments toonmom. I've seen a lot of your sketches and drawings on this boards. Nice stuff, one question though. It seems that when you draw caricatures you usually draw them as if they were looking directly at you. Any reason? I just ask because I never draw faces or creatures straight forward unless they are for teaching purposes. I find that drawing a character or face at the 3/4 view with the eyes looking at me seems more natural. Or do you work mostly from photographs? Either way I like your work. You have a nice variety of people/creatures/objects in your sketchbook submissions.

I draw most of my caricatures straight on because that is easiest for me. I would love to be able to do more 3/4 views, but I have trouble with them. I almost always work from photos.
Thanks for the kind words about my work, it means a lot to me.
BTW - are the drawings you posted done in pencil?

the first one was in pencil, but the second page was in pen. I usually draw in pen in my sketchbook. It forces me to try and turn mistakes around to work for me since I cannot erase. I got the idea (kinda) from watching Bob Ross painting his landscapes. When he messed up he just adjusted and made his mistakes work for him.

(you knew i was gonna throw in something about hockey, right?). the annie lennox drawings were just something i was interested in trying. ;D

Instead of studying for my midterms, I draw Bruce Willis from Die Hard...don't know where he fits into Greek and Egyptian art, but I'd say he's the ideal form!

Hi Tooned, I'm 15, my birthday is 7/26/1989. Thanks. I don't know about being a fully matured artist. And my work does have flaws, believe me, my dad tells me all the time. I have been drawing as long as I can remember. Both my parents are artists. I was practically raised in an art studio. I'm also home schooled so I have more time than the average person to draw. I mean, I do spend a full 6 - 8 hours a day doing homework (my mom and dad see to that - heh). I'd love to do something with my art. I live in Gloucester, MA. and I go with my parents practically every weekend to Rockport Massachusetts which is a huge fishing and art community. I've been a member of the Rockport Art Association since I was 10. I've been exposed to plein air painting and studio portrait paintings with live models since I was baby. My dad is a portrait artist and my mom is the plein air painter in the family. Me, I'm the odd one, the sketch artist. I love drawing with pencil because I hate setting up of paints and preparing canvases. Most of all, I hate the clean up. At least with pencil drawings, I can just take a piece of paper or just about anything and take any old pencil and just draw whenever I want to. No clean up, no mess, no preparation time. As far as my future, I don't know. My parents have always taught me to follow my dreams. My favorite artists are Mary Cassett and Artemisia Gentileschi. They were powerful female artists who did what their heart desires. I guess that is what I plan to do. Follow my heart and draw. Hugs, Holly
