love the style. somewhat like another artist, Alberto Ruiz, whom I also admire. Technical question: I've seen the blue pencil used lots, and examples of the red pencil...why is red used, and where can you get them?

thanx everybody. glad you liked these. it was fun to get away from trying to achieve the exact facial likeness for a time and do something i'm not quite so practiced at. now, though, i think i see why i did so poorly in life drawing classes in college. ;D stoons, i much prefer the red colerase pencils over the blue, just because they have a much more agreeable consistency. by that i mean that they're soft enough to get a really nice, smooth stroke and variation in line thicknesses. the blue pencils, by camparison are kind of hard and just not as enjoyable to work with. as i think i may have mentioned before, most of the caricature sketches you guys see on here are done in red colerase. you don't see them that way because i scan them in gray tones mode. the only two drawbacks to the red pencils are: first, they don't erase very easily; and second, because they're softer, they need sharpening much more often. you should be able to find them in any art supplies store.

Don
Very Nice work. I like and enjoy how you just use the photo to bounce your creativity from. And your anatomy is great even though you have moved it to what you want, it's all still is in form. Well done Don!
