--In answer to my "hairspray" using for finish caricature -- I use during caricature a first drawing with pencil large, just to brush volume fast, to draw the main matrix of the face (line of eyes / and line center from the top to the mouth ) and to draw main deform volumes.[1min] After I make drawing with simple black marker for blackline.[5min] I continue after with pastel dry, I just make full part of color, and I make light with a eraser to go more fast.I add the main point light (eyes/jewels/light in hair/on the lips) with a white corrector (used for text usualy) in pen.[5min] At the end : the hair spray come in my personal technique to make a little wet pastel : it have the effect to make my blackline very black ( cause the pastel coat sometimes make dissapear my black lines, for blond hair for exemple ). It's also good fixative for the pastel colors. After ,cheap Hairspray cost 0,90 Euro in france compare to Art fixative 9 Euro for the same volume in spray. That's why for those reasons it's becamed my choice. Other solutions , I met by the past some drawer who used a mix they did theyreself to make a fixative : 1/5 of Arabic Gum mixed with 4/5 of pur alcool. It's make a home fixative very good for dusty techniques but's it's need a pulverisator to make airbrush with to apply on the drawing.( but cheap compare to already art fixative spray)

this is a photo of me, during a street theatre festival that goes on in august. i keep my set-up very simple, so that it's easy to carry to and from the car, and i can move up and down the street, if i wish. i have samples of caricatures on the signs on the back of the chairs, so people walking by can see what i'm doing. i use pencils first, then finish with black ink. if it's raining, i give them a plastic cover to put the cartoon inside. sometimes i can be sitting quite a while, with no customers, but it's during those times i draw people i see walking by, as practise.

Thanks for the photo! I would love to see a picture of your signs. I like how you hang them on the chairs, what a great idea.

This thread had some good information in it, so I thought I'd bump it up to the top.
