For those of us who are regulars on the board know the type of person Dave was. It is funny how close you can feel to a person you have never met in life. His talent and warmth is a great loss and will be greatly missed by all. I'll second that. I've only been a member for about 8 months but although I don't get much time to post I still visit this site every day and I know I will definitely miss Dave and his amazing contributions to the site. What sad news.

What?! When?! How?! I stop visiting for a short time and I come back to Dave being gone forever?! Tell me this is an April Fool's holdover! No more Dave? But Dave was awesome! It was really touching that my picture shows up on his tribute thread. I never got to draw him but I had some ideas! I have his picture of me hanging up above my picture window. I print the caricatures people do of me and have a little gallery running along the ceiling above my window. Dave's is the centerpiece. I love them all, but he captured a real vitality and you could tell the care he took with each person. It probably reflected in his "real" life as well. Goodbye Dave, I commissioned a construction crew to carve your version of me on the moon as well as the tagline "Dave drew this, pay homage" I hope you like it. -Slim

He will be greatly missed. All the amazing caricatures he put into this site will be kept as a toke of our appreciation for such an amazing guy. His caricature of me made me laugh so much. I just can't believe he has really gone - so suddenly

Dave was a caricaturist. Quite good at it too, IMO. He passed away recently. He posted alot at Virtual Art. It can be difficult to know a person that you've only met online. Somtimes when text is typed onto a computer screen the attitude is hard to gauge. And the readers own attitude and feelings will affect what he reads into the words that he is reading. That being said, I don't remember Dave ever coming across as anything more than a good guy. Not a prima dona artist, not a jerk in his posts, not even having a bad day. He got along with everybody at the board. Always had an encouraging word and good honest critique. Here's a caricature that I drew of Dave last year. Whether they knew personally or online only, he will be missed by all who knew him IMO. R.I.P. My sympathies to his loved ones. Frank Zieglar

this is really shocking. i was this close to finally (finally!) finishing his request from the last member-to-member challenge! (remember that one? like, 4,000 years ago?) i'm so sad he will never see it! especially after the excellent job he did on the sarah mclachlan caricature i requested of him! i guess now i have a little extra motivation to finish it. and to get a caricature drawn of him, which i never got around to either. and to join in the clapton challenge. like frank said, i never read anything from dave but nice, nice, nice! this really is a loss.

I just read the news yesterday. Even though I don't actively remember really interacting with Dave, I am saddened. I glanced through all of his posts yesterday, and I remember most of them from when they were first posted. What an amazing talent! The level of love here for this man that probably none of us have met is really a beautiful thing, don't you think? Just imagine the love coming from those who knew him well.
Thank you, Tooned, for this wonderful compilation/tribute.

I didn't know Dave that well, so I feel like I missed out. Reading all the kind words spoken about him makes me proud to be a member of this board. Ya'll(yes, I'm from the sooouth) are a nice group of people. I agree with tooned, I think that he would be touched.

Wow! As been mentioned several times by others, his talent will be missed. Also, in this Virtual World here is proof that you can find yourself 'connected' to others through words, and...fortunately for all of us- our caricatures.
Dave, you WILL be missed.
