Here is a caricature of Tom Hanks that I did. Poor guy looks like "butthead"(I don't like bevis and butthead). I do like Tom Hanks though and I did him a serious injustice!! I think that is funny anyway. ;D I used oil pastels(first time that I've used these). Let me know what you think.

Pretty good try, This guy is one that is really hard to do. He is Mr average that a lot of the drawing books refer to. Like the color and the use of the ink line helps. You might consider giving him a hair cut at the top of the head, put your hand over the top of head it makesa difference.

Yeah, I see what you mean lightshifter. I don't have a good drawing program, just a simple paint program. I used it to give Tom a haircut. He is on the adverage side isn't he? I guess his nose and forehead stick out the most to me. He's my favorite actor, so I thought that it would be fun to draw him as a caricature. I want to draw Tobey Maguire as a caricature and then give him a spiderman body. I think that would be cool. He's a hard one too. I'd like to see anyone else's renderings of that. I smell a challenge ;D.

I find Tom difficult to do as well, Tobey too. Try to vary your line thickness. I use two different pens. One is a brush tip and the other is a std tip (both PITT artist pens). I use the brush tip for the outside lines and the standard tip for the inside lines and then I use the brush tip to add shadows to the upper eye lid and under the nose and between the lips (if needed). I still have a long way to go, but I found by doing that it bumped my work up a notch or two. Just a suggestion, you are off to a great start. I look forward to seeing your Spiderman.

Thanks for the help toonmom. Now concerning the pens. I'm not familar with exactly what sort of pens you are using. By std pen are you talking about one of those big sharpies with the chisel edge. I have one of those, but I don't have a brush pen and don't know where to find one. Can you get it at Wal-mart or do you have to go to an art and craft store?
Yeah, I can't wait to see my spiderman either! That will be my first full body drawing!! It may take me a little bit to finish it.

another option you can try is ink and brush. That is what i use for all my line work.Black ink brush and a nib pen.

The standard tip has a regular ink pen tip, medium size. I got mine at the local craft store.
