Congratulations Toonmom for the excellent idea. Very motivational... and very good prizes. I am for sure after this competition we will have bigger participation and good competitors. Luck to all the participants. A hug, Vidal

I'm looking forward to this. I even signed up again for Mauri's class on Tuesday. I want to really get into caricatures and this challenge will be a good kick in the pants for me so to speak. Can't wait to get started.....Are we going to know the members participating in the slacker challenge? Ricky

I will post a list of everyone doing the challenge. I want to give it about a week to make sure everyone gets a chance to join in.

I can't draw to save my life, and my attempts are going to be nothing less than embarrassing, but I really need the motivation to practise and here it is! Come join me in the challenge L x

Yes!! Times like, a jillion! Observe the ultimate slacker that is me.
Just so I'm clear, though, how exactly will credible attempts as opposed to half-hearted attempts be judged? I assume quality itself doesn't matter, as this is not a skill level competition, but what will the rating process be?
I love the idea of winning a prize. It's really sad to me, though, that it takes something like that to get me to do something that I actually do have fun doing in the first place. Oh, well. Such is life.

Good point Eric. Maybe effort will be judged on how we improve over time??

A half-hearted attempt would be two cirlces for eyes, a triangle nose and a curved line for a mouth, put a cirlce around it add a couple more cirlces for ears and call it a caricature. - That would not be acceptable. Of course, I don't think any of our members would do such a thing, but you never know when a prize is on the line.
Each drawing should take at least 2 or 3 minutes to do and a reference photo should be used. You can use pencil, marker, digital, etc. - How far you take it is up to you.
How well you draw them, as far as good likeness, nice line quality, etc. has nothing to do with your standing in the challenge. The only thing that will be looked at is that you do 5 drawings, scan and post them before the end of the week. You won't be able to post them on the following Tuesday after the deadline and say you got busy or was sick. - I don't think that would be fair to the rest of the members competing in this.
This will start on Monday, with the first set of challenge directions (which will be to draw 5 caricatures of your choice) posted on Sunday night. Between now and then, I will get together a list of all the members who are competing.

May we scan our caricatures into Photoshop for coloring?

Hi guys. Fantastic idea. Maybe this is the "kick" I need as well. Definately a slacker here!!! I LOVE drawing, but since it's a joy, a hobby, it often gets pushed to the side for other "more important" things. Thanks, ToonMom, for giving me an excuse to do something I love!! Looking forward to starting the challenge!!! Count me in!!! Ebeth

Hey everyone! I'm definitely a slacker, here. I'm usually so busy with everything else that I never have anytime to draw. So, I don't know if I'll will last if I do this challenge.

Hi everyone, I am so excited about this challenge. I set up a account with photobucket however the uploaded photo seems too small. Can someone experienced in photobucket give me an idea of how to prepare the scanned page (proper size) so it can look better. This is how it looks now: i34.photobucket.com/albums/d122/Joey_Caricatures/EYES_10_24_05.jpgThanks everyone and sorry I did not mean to throw this in a tangent. Joey

Hi Joey Way too small - the original is 492K in Photoshop but only 12K as a .jpg you've compressed the beejeezus out of it. Scan at a minimum 300 dpi and 100% sizing get it so it you're happy with it in Photoshop (levels / curves etc ) .... drop it to 72 dpi which is screen resolution. Play around with .jpg compression so the final is acceptable viewing quality. Open it in a web browser is a good test - too much compression causes pixellisation which looks awful. Save a copy of what looks good and keep it as a template for your next posting ..... remember you have a file size of 250k to work with on Photobucket - you still had 238K to play with. Hope that helped - best of luck the eyes look good, keep pushing that pencil. Terry
