hmm...well, i teach my artists that likeness comes before exaggeration, some might disagree, but you give someone an ink drawing that looks like them and they love it, you give that same person a funny drawing of...someone, its not quite the same reaction...so once you have the likeness down pat, then start to push and pull features... and i myself like subtlety...i know, its an oxy-moron, a subtle caricature?!, but if you can figure that one out, you're golden!

oh, and...its all in the wrist... a GREAT caricature artist once told me that in order get a good caricature, i must get my first 1000 bad ones out of the way...so thats what i did, in the privacy of my own room, so that when i got out there drawing in public ( or posting for all to see), i'm ready!

Mankster, that is quite true...I have kept some samples from my early days as inspiration. They are HORRIBLE! I didn't start at an amusement park or have any sort of guidance so I started using the cheapest, worst materials. I drew at a Renaissance Faire and had three sticks I screwed together for an easel. I used a 8 1/2 x 11" newsprint tablet I bought at a dollar store, sharpie markers and crayola colored pencils. I rarely got a likeness and the drawing looked a little "mushy". Here's the kicker folks...I still made Hella Money! That's right! I know you newbies are a little nervous about drawing for money because you think you're maybe not skilled enough? Well, I bet if Sebastian Kreuger posted his first five years worth of work we wouldn't see so many masterpieces. But now? So keep a crackin!

good post by both...quality is a must!!!
but in the same token.you have to get out there and do it!!!..not all pictures gonna have likeness...once you get pass the shaking....the haglers in the background..and the kids knocking into you and have a good time .. practice makes perfect...
the better lookin your caricatures are the more money you can make...
